A Sample Wedding Weekend at Samoset

Check into Your Oceanview Room
Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by your wedding planner and escorted to your King Ocean View room to get settled in. And what a room to settle into: All 178 accommodations were recently renovated in 2020, boasting nautically rich details like shiplap walls, stunning Midcoast Maine photography from a local artist, decorative wooden paddles, headboards upholstered in beautiful white-and-navy striped fabric, and even accent tables featuring nautical maps of Penobscot Bay built right into the tabletops.
Looking to truly lavish yourself? Upgrade and book one the property’s four stand-alone cottages over – looking the golf course’s signature holes, particularly the 1,500-square-foot Flume Cottage built on a rock cliff that juts out above the cool Maine waters below. With a central open-concept living area with lofted ceilings and exposed beams, a full kitchen, and private patio with a bubbling hot tub, the cottage can even be reserved just for the night of your wedding.

Italian-Inspired Eats
Rise with the sun and greet the day at La Bella Vita, the resort’s restaurant that is richly furnished with wooden touches, romantic lighting, a wood-fired brick oven, and artwork inspired by the boot-shaped peninsula. But you won’t be digging into the restaurant’s famous menu of antipasti dishes, pizza, and home – made pasta quite yet. Rather, you’ll take a quick stroll through the breakfast mercato (Italian for “market – place”) to indulge in an abundant array of European charcuterie, sun-ripened seasonal fruit, and made-to-order waffles. Wash it all down with a refreshing smoothie before finishing your morning off with a visit The Spa for a suite of pampering treatments or a round of golf at the 18-hole championship course.

Rehearsal Dinner and Welcome Party
Casually receive your wedding party and out-of-town guests on the multi-level deck of the zero-entry pool, while soaking up some sun. Guests can enjoy frozen cocktails and light bites served up by Splash Pool Bar. As the sun begins its descent, your friends and family retreat to their on-site accommodations to unpack and unwind.
Following a brief rehearsal of the ceremony, you’ll treat your wedding party to a traditional “Downeast” lobster bake or barbecue with breathtaking views of Penobscot Bay. After dinner, join all your guests for a small welcome party at the Clubhouse Grille with expansive views of the golf course and outdoor deck.

Take a Walk Out to the Sea Before Getting Ready
Toast the sunrise with morning mimosas, then set off for a walk down the Rockland Breakwater. Located right near the golf course’s 5th hole, this historic milelong jetty constructed of massive granite blocks juts out into the bay, making the walk feel like an endless skim over the ocean. Then, summon your group to the Ultimate Backyard for a nine-hole disc golf challenge, croquet match, or cornhole tournament.
When it’s time to begin getting ready, retreat to the Penobscot Bay Room for hair, makeup, and wedding preparation photos, while soaking up the beautiful widesweeping views of the bay from the room’s big-picture windows. You and your wedding party will enjoy a relaxing and stress-free afternoon as the seasoned events staff puts the finishing touches on your special day.

First Look, & Ceremony
With a picture-perfect backdrop around every corner, it’s hard to decide where to capture those “first look” photos. Perhaps it’s at the foot of the historic Rockland Breakwater, with the scenic lighthouse over your shoulders, or under a stand of trees on the grassy knoll overlooking the bay. Finally, it’s time to exchange your vows as majestic three-masted schooners ply the waters of Penobscot Bay along the horizon.

An Open & Airy Reception
Begin your evening mixing and mingling with your friends and family over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres as the sun sets on the Front Lawn.
Treat your guests to an artfully curated dinner menu at the Penobscot Bay Pavilion. Set overlooking the bay and surrounded by the lush beauty of the resort gardens, this elegant, tented venue sets the tone for a memorable evening of dining and dancing amid ocean breezes and starry skies.

Farewell Brunch
Before you say your goodbyes, gather your loved ones for a final meal in the tented pavilion, where you’ll recount your favorite moments of the weekend over a spread of sumptuous pastries, seasonal fruit, and freshly brewed coffee.

Stay a While
Once your guests have departed, it’s time to wind down and experience all that the Mid-Coast towns of Camden, Rockport, and Rockland have to offer. Explore the art of Edward Hopper and Georgia O’Keeffe at the nationally recognized Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland; cruise the craggy coastline aboard a lobster boat that launches from Camden; or take a scenic drive from Rockport to Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, home to some of the area’s prettiest stretches of coastal road. If a day of leisure is more your style, settle into one of the poolside hammocks to experience for yourself what all your guests were raving about the day before.
